The downloadable Data Lifeguard Tools now comes in both DOS and Windows versions and was written specifically for the installation of Western Digital EIDE hard drives. If your computer system already has a hard drive installed with an operating system of Windows 98SE or greater, you should use the Windows version of Data Lifeguard for best results. The DOS version is required if installing a hard drive in a new system without existing operating system support.

The Diagnostics utility allows you to test the drive, print results for last drive tested, repair errors found during the Test Drive option and write zeros to the drive. To use this utility, please download the file to your computer. If using the ZIP version of the file, then next unzip the utility. Finally, just run the program "DLGDiagv504c.exe" which will walk you through the steps to create a bootable diagnostic diskette.

This is a Windows version of the Data Lifeguard Diagnostics utility. The utility can perform drive identification, diagnostics, and repairs on a Western Digital FireWire, EIDE, or USB drive. In addition, it can provide you with the drive's serial and model numbers.

The version of the driver installation routine located on your CD may not install properly in Windows ME. The driver in the attached zip file is designed to correct this issue. To use, please download the wdmc_usb.zip file and then extract the files to your desktop. Double click on the file named "Install.bat". The driver should install automatically. To complete the process, please reboot your system.

The version of the Media Center driver located on your installation CD may cause an unwanted rearrangement of your desktop icons in Windows XP each time you boot your computer. The driver in the attached zip file is designed to correct this issue. To use, please follow the instructions below:
  1. Go into the Control Panel in Windows by clicking on Start, Settings, Control Panel or Start, Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs. Uninstall the Media Center driver.
  2. Download the wdmcdrvr.zip file or wdmcdrvr.exe file, and then extract the files to your desktop.
  3. Double click on the file named "Install.bat". The driver should install automatically.
  4. Reboot your system.
  5. (optional) you can delete the downloaded files from the desktop.

This download is for Media Center and Dual-Option backup external drive customers running Macintosh OS v10.3 and higher who have the 1.0 or 1.1 version of the installation CD.

Please follow the steps below when upgrading from Retrospect Express 5.1 to Retrospect Express 6.0:
  1. Uninstall Retrospect Express 5.1
  2. Restart
  3. Download the file to the left.
  4. Run the file to install Retrospect Express 6.0
NOTE: When the Retrospect Express 5.1 installer is used to "uninstall" the application, you will be asked if you want to keep your existing preferences. You should choose to keep your existing preferences. When 6.0 is launched, it will ask you if you would like to import the old preferences. It is OK to keep the older prefs - Retrospect Express 6.0 will import the older prefs into the new application.

Under Windows 2000, the icons associated with the Media Center drive may display incorrectly. Dual icons for a single device may be displayed. Icons may also be swapped (i.e., a thumb-drive may appear as the 5-in1 device while the 5-in1 device appears as a thumb-drive). The driver in the attached zip file is designed to correct this issue. To use, please download the seticon.zip file and then extract the files to your desktop. Double click on the file named "Install.bat". The driver should install automatically. To complete the process, please reboot your system.

Instructions for adding the Western Digital Logo to display as the Hard Drive Icon.

  1. Create a folder named AUTORUN directly on the root of the drive (example E:\AUTORUN)
  2. Extract or move the WDLOGO.ICO into the E:\AUTORUN folder.
  3. Extract or move the AUTORUN.INF file into the root of the drive (Example E:\AUTORUN.INF)
  4. Reboot the computer, or in the case of an external drive, "safely remove" the hard drive and then reboot the computer. Plug the drive back in.
THe Icon should now be displayed in "explorer" or "My Computer"


Notice:
For users familiar with our EZ-Drive, WDDiag, WDATA66, and WDTblchk programs, these utilities have been replaced with our new Data Lifeguard Tools software. Data Lifeguard Tools is a software suite that combines all of our EIDE drive installation and management utilities into one easy to use program. The utilities are also available separately.
